The Promise Page 3

  Chapter 3

A new semester had just began at Highfield School of law and the once sad Rachael was now beaming with smiles. She was in her final semester, she had overcome all her past challenges, she no longer needed anyone to teach her, she was more attentive in class and more hardworking, two factors which combined with the grace of God to make her one of the nest students in her school. Once again, the happiness which she had when she was in high school had returned, she had fallen and risen back to her feet. She was now better than ever. Life turned so sweet for her, Joseph and her never spent a week without hearing each other’s voice. Joseph began schooling late and was just about two years to becoming a graduate of Computer Science. In her school, she became a role model to many people and began an initiative to enlighten youths about the dangers of immorality, a campaign that made her very popular in the school. Every single event pointed to a very bright future for a girl who in the past was on the path to destruction. At twenty three years of age, she was no longer a girl, but a young lady. The school administrators recognized her as one of their leading students. Promise had become a forgotten issue. After his arrest, he and his accomplice, Deborah were both charged to court for conniving to sexually assault their colleague. A year after, the trial ended and both of them were sentenced to 5 years imprisonment each. Ever since then, many youths who heard the story began to change from their immoral ways, Highfield School of Law changed for better and many students learned from the incident. At the end of the session, Rachael was done with her five years course. She came out in flying colours and she felt fulfilled. It was about three weeks to the graduation ceremony, Rachael and her parents were filled with joy, Joseph was not left out of it, he had become like a part of their family, his parents and the parents of Rachael had become one. Many people had been speculating that Rachael and Joseph would end up marrying each other but the duo had nothing of such in mind, as they simply believed in a better world ruled by God’s love where everyone would love each other as brothers and sisters. On the day of the graduation ceremony, Rachael’s parents, Joseph’s parents and Joseph himself were all present to witness the great day. After lots of exciting presentations, the moment they had all been waiting for came, the presentation of prizes to the best students. Rachael won most of the prizes for her academic performances and for her activities towards bettering the life of youths. She won the prize for the overall best student and was opportune to give a speech. The little voice of Rachael was not too little for the amplifier to raise high enough for every ear to hear. Beaming with smiles on her face, she began her speech.” Greetings to the Chairman of the occasion, honourable men and women on the high table, invited guests, all students of Highfield School of Law, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. With great joy in my heart do I thank God for making it possible for this day to become a reality. I am short of words but permit me to say a few things. It has been five years that I gained admission into this school as a young humble girl. In those days, I knew little about the challenges of being a youth and in my ignorance, I made many mistakes which almost ruined my life, but I thank God who lifted me from the valley of destruction and placed me on the mountain of fulfilment. I must also appreciate my caring parents and the school administrators who were there for me, all through my travails. From the depth of my heart, my great appreciation goes to m0y friend and brother, someone who has been the driving force that has been used by God to make me what I am today, without whom I would have had no cause to smile on this day. He is someone unknown to many here, sitting among us today, in person of Joseph Majekobaje. I also appreciate all my fellow students who have always been supporting me and my quest to help the youths to live morally upright. I commend you all to learn from my own past mistakes and let us live a life that is worthy of emulation. To all my fellow brothers and sisters, let us strive to live a life that is acceptable and worthy to our creator, God Almighty, living a free life and abstaining from the bondage of dating which would have ruined my own life if not for the grace of God and the people that he used to help me. I leave you all today, happy that I am free but unhappy that I would no longer be here to admonish you to make the world a better place through the type of life you live. God bless you all.”

The whole hall was filled with a thunderous applause for the young promising lady. As she stepped down, she walked towards Joseph and they both embraced each other, sticking together in the love of God to forever remain loving, charming souls.

  BLISS OF LOVE

  From the heaven,

  On earth it descends,

  Into my heart,

  The love of God,

  The love of myself,

The love of my special ones.

  My love,

I long to be with you,

  Have you in my hands,

Tell you the word of God,

  Lead you away,

  From the path of evil.

  My heart is melted,

  Not by thy beauty,

But the excellence of thy character,

  You show me true love,

We stand on the foundation of truth,

  Not deceived by lust,

  Devoid of hate.

  A bliss,

  Where I feel loved,

  My emotions expressed,

Thy truth I always sought for.

  I long to be,

  In love infinite.

  I seek no perfection,

  I look for thy truth,

  I am not perfect,

  And neither are you.

  Thy love I seek,

Not the lust of the heart,

But the beauty of true love.

  AUTHORS’S STATEMENT

Writing is to me one of the best talents anyone can have in the world, it is an excellent way of making the world a better place to live in. This book is written to help youths to learn about the need to live in the way of God and abstain from fornication, dating and all forms of lust. It also aims to encourage parents to train their children in the way of God and teach them how to differentiate between true love and lust. We are all created in such a wonderful world, but due to the prevalence of lust and hatred, the world has been turned into a very terrible place. Today, we are faced with many choices, to choose between good and evil, we are faced with a decision to love, hate or lust. Therefore, it becomes imperative for us to make the right decisions in due time, to save our future generation from drowning in the lake of hell. This is our world, with the power of God, we can overcome the threat posed by the presence of the devil among us.
